Yesterday, Wrexham Inclusion FC took a development team to play a friendly against Derwen College fc at Derwen. Both teams were eagerly anticipating the game after previous cross border derbys.
The game started off at a fast pace from both teams. Wrexham had slightly more possession but that wasn't enough to stop Derwen going into a 2-0 lead. Reagan Cowan pulled a goal back for Wrexham with a tidy finish. Derwen then added another before half time and went into the break 3-1 up due to superior finishing. It was a harsh scoreline for defenders Jason and Robyn who gave a solid preformance and showed good composure on the ball throughout the game.
Wrexham started the second half the same as the first, using quick tempo passing and constant pressing which was epitomized by Millie who hassled the Derwen players all game and played an important role in winning the ball back throughout the game when Derwen had possession. Reagan Cowan got his second of the game after one of the best passing moves seen from a Wrexham team. It was two touch football which involved the majority of the team and a lovely weighted through ball from Morgan that was well finished by Cowan. Derwen then scored a fourth with a shot into the top corner which left our goalkeeper Aidrian Evans helpless. Regan Cowan then completed a fabulous hat trick and brought the score to 4-3. Steve Edwards then topped of an outstanding performance with an equalizing goal which he thoroughly deserved. The game looked to be heading for well deserved draw but for and audacious shot from a Derwen play which caught Adrian off guard. It was a cruel blow to a game where neither team deserved to lose but credit to Derwen for not giving up and playing to the final whistle.
It was a really difficult task to name player of the match with such a good team performance so we had to go with a joint decision of Morgan Basham and Steve Edwards for their brilliant individual performances, well done!
